We had several calls with Sweet Pea Floral Design to properly understand what they needed and what they were hoping to achieve.
One of their main goals was to appear in the top three search results for the key terms their customers were using to find services like theirs. They also told us that a competitor had recently closed down, and they were keen to take advantage of that by taking over the top positions in that location too.
The website was designed with the clear goal of turning as much traffic into orders as possible. When you’re running any marketing campaign that leads people to a website, the campaign itself is only half the battle. The site they land on needs to be just as strong to make the most of that opportunity.
For Sweet Pea Floral Design, we used their primary brand colours and followed their brand guidelines closely for fonts, animations and tone. With a wide age range of customers likely to use the site, it was essential to create a layout that felt familiar, simple and seamless to use.
Our design team put themselves in the shoes of a typical customer, imagining exactly how they’d want to move through the site and place an order. From this, we developed a clean, straightforward checkout process that integrates smoothly with their chosen payment gateway and links with their in-store card machine.
With that same customer focus in mind, the rest of the website was carefully shaped to suit new and returning visitors. Easy-to-use features like custom gift messages and simple product selections were built in to help make the ordering process as enjoyable and stress-free as possible.
Once the core layout was in place, our design team focused on product categories and navigation. With a wide range of products to showcase, the website needed a carefully planned structure that would help users find what they’re looking for quickly and without confusion.
To get this right, we created and refined a detailed wireframe. This was adjusted and fine-tuned until we landed on a setup that worked perfectly for Sweet Pea Floral Design’s audience. The goal was to keep visitors browsing, adding items to their basket, and engaging with the site, all while keeping the experience straightforward and intuitive.
After that, we built out the rest of the pages you’d expect to see on a website, including information pages, contact details and more, ensuring everything was cohesive and on brand.
Once the full design was complete, we carried out thorough testing across mobile, tablet and desktop devices to make sure it was fully responsive. We also tested the site across all major browsers to guarantee a smooth, consistent experience for every visitor.
As with all of our websites, we set up the full suite of Google tracking tools so we could monitor traffic, performance and results. These stats were also made available to Sweet Pea Floral Design, giving them direct insight into how things were going.
We then spent five full days analysing their competitors. This involved a detailed audit of SEO structure and on-site optimisation across competitor websites, which gave us a solid understanding of what we were up against and what would be needed to outperform them.
Once we had a clear picture of search volumes, current rankings and SERPs, we began building out the SEO structure for the site, both on-site and off-site. This included technical optimisation and the start of our backlink building campaigns.
The foundation SEO work and first wave of link building were completed within the first 30 days. From that point on, we closely monitored performance, keeping an eye not just on SEO results, but also on how the website was functioning for both customers and staff, to make sure the user experience stayed smooth and consistent across the board.
Even though Sweet Pea Floral Design had a very small SEO budget, after 60 to 90 days of consistent SEO work and ongoing website updates, they still saw an increase of over 800% in website traffic compared to their previous site.
Since then, we’ve continued to run SEO campaigns each month. While the results naturally fluctuate, traffic has never dropped below the new baseline we established during those first few months.
Thanks to the success of the website and campaign, the client has now unlocked new funding to expand operations. They’re preparing to scale up again soon, with plans to grow traffic and orders even further.
To note, Sweet Pea Floral Design has since moved their website to a florist marketplace system. This change was due to internal business decisions and not related to the performance or results of their SEO campaign.
