From Spreadsheets to a Quoting App

Virus Shield Biosciences works in the hygiene industry, and like a lot of growing businesses, their quoting and customer onboarding had not kept up with them. The process was slow and inefficient, and it had become a real bottleneck for the sales team. They needed a mobile app to generate quotes on the spot, but there was a catch: the maths behind those quotes was seriously complex.

Complex Maths, Simple Interface

Pricing a Virus Shield job depended on hundreds of interlocking formulas, the kind of thing that had previously lived in sprawling spreadsheets. The real challenge was not the calculations themselves, but translating all of that complexity into something a sales rep could use in seconds, without a spreadsheet in sight.

A Cross-Platform Quoting App

We built Virus Shield a mobile app in Flutter that runs across iPhone, iPad and Android from a single codebase, so reps can build an accurate quote wherever they are. All the complexity sits under the surface: the interface stays clean and genuinely easy to use, guiding the user through to a finished quote in moments.

A Web Portal Behind It

The app is backed by a web portal, built in React, where staff manage products, pricing and quotes, keeping the whole system up to date from one place. Finished quotes are turned into branded PDFs and distributed automatically, removing yet another manual step.

Built Through Rigorous Iteration

Accuracy was everything here. A quote that is even slightly wrong costs the business money, so we tested and refined relentlessly, working through roughly seven revisions on each calculation across hundreds of formulas until every result was reliable. The app continues to evolve with ongoing improvements.
