Website technology

Your website is hand-built in React and Next.js, the modern stack used by the world's leading companies, so it loads fast, stays secure and is ready to grow.

React

These are real prices from within our company, but after conducting months of market research, we found that we actually sit slightly lower than the average UK web design agency for what we offer.

So, expect to pay more than what is shown here if you're looking elsewhere, but this should give you a realistic estimate of the cost for a bespoke website from an agency like ours.

Website costs vary widely depending on what you need. For typical UK price ranges, see our guide to website costs. The calculator above gives you a tailored figure for your exact project.

I found a cheaper quote

Yes, we can certainly believe that. As with any industry, there are going to be cheaper and more expensive options. But you always get what you pay for.

The calculator above gives you a realistic figure for a well-developed website, not a templated, unoptimised and slow WordPress website which you're likely to get if you go for something cheaper.

For example, here's a cheaper version of the Gym Flooring website:

And here's the version we built which cost slightly more:

How this web design cost calculator works

The calculator is based on our experience of building hundreds of websites. It's designed to give you a realistic estimate of the cost of your website from an agency like ours where we care about quality and the website delivering a return on investment.

Each section of the calculator has a set cost related to the time and expertise required to build and develop that part of your website based on an average project.

This calculator is not designed for complicated web apps that have lots of moving parts (like course platforms, membership sites, etc.). This is more geared towards business websites that want to sell their products or services through eCommerce or lead generation.

Understanding your estimate

Each section of the calculator influences the overall cost of your website. Below you can find more information about each section and how it affects the overall cost.

Number of pages

Pages are main content areas of your website. This is not eCommerce products or blog posts as they have a different cost and structure which is explained below. On a well-designed website, each page should have a different purpose and design, and this takes time.

The number of pages your website has is the most important factor in determining the overall cost.

Here are examples of what pages you might have on your website:

  • Homepage
  • About us
  • Services
  • Pricing
  • Contact
  • Privacy Policy, Terms and Conditions

and so on.

eCommerce and products

eCommerce is an important part of your website cost estimate. Integrating eCommerce into your website can be a complex process depending on what you need your store to do. Our estimate is based on a basic eCommerce store with a couple of custom features, like a "pre-owned" condition scale or upsell functionality. Here's an example from one of our recent web design projects, Lyons Blade:

Lyonsblade Preowned Condition Chart

If you need a subscription or membership site, this can make things a little more complicated, so expect to pay a little more than what is estimated above.

Another important factor in determining the overall cost of your website is the number of products and whether you'd like us to add them for you, or if you'll add them yourself once the website is finished. One easy way to save on the cost of your website is to add the products yourself. We will of course show you how to do this.

Custom features (logins, booking, quoting, blogs)

Custom features are quite self-explanatory. Adding custom functionality and logic to your website can change the whole scope. For example, a login system involves:

  • Extra layers of security for users and admins
  • Login and registration forms
  • Forgot password functionality
  • Database configuration for storing user data
  • and much more.

This is before you even consider what users will be able to do once they’re logged in, which is a can of worms in itself.

What might seem quite simple on the surface can quickly turn into a complex process. We have estimated as best we can for these custom features.

Content management (CMS)

Content management systems (CMS) are the backbone of your website. They allow you to easily add, edit, and delete content without needing to know how to code. Most clients prefer to have one with their website, but some simply do not need one and want to save on the cost of development.

With more and more modern web design agencies moving away from WordPress and over to React and Next.js, adding a CMS is a development task in itself and takes time, so we like to give our clients the choice, as sometimes a CMS is never going to be used, and the client can just ask us to add the content for them anyway.

When a CMS is requested within the quote, we often offer a few types of CMS choices too. Some clients just need a basic field-based CMS, where you fill in simple fields to add content. Other clients need a more advanced CMS, where you can create pages, sections, and blocks, and then add content to those.

Here's an example of a basic CMS:

Design and creativity

Silly question, right? Don't all websites need to be 10/10? Well, yes and no.

As a web design agency, we pride ourselves on our design and creativity, but sites with custom graphics, animations, and videos can add to the cost of your website. We prefer to offer a range of design options, as some clients just care about having an online presence, whereas others want to stand out from the crowd. Giving you the choice of design level can help you better manage your budget.

We also added this section to the calculator so it may help you compare different agencies. The choice here will determine what type of agency you choose. If basic design fits your budget better, then you can choose a cheaper agency, whereas if the more premium design fits your budget better, then you can be more selective with the agencies you choose.

On-site SEO

SEO itself requires a lot of work and a 12 to 24 month campaign to actually deliver results. This being said, having good on-site SEO right from the launch of your website can drastically improve your chances of success without the need for a massive campaign.

Getting on-site SEO right from the start also means that when you do come to running an SEO campaign, you have a solid foundation to build on and you'll spend less time and money on getting your website optimised.

Professional content writing

This one often confuses people.

As a modern agency, we can write the content for free using AI, but some clients prefer to have a qualified professional write the content for them as it often delivers better results for SEO and always reads and sounds better.

It's also about capturing your brand's voice and tone, which can be difficult to do with AI and can make your website sound robotic or cheap.

Domain and hosting

If you do not already have a domain, we can help you get one. Simply select that you need a domain in the calculator and we will include the domain on your final proposal. We often match the cost of your domain from mainstream providers.

What’s included in our website prices

Aside from the options displayed within the calculator, we also include the following as standard:

  • Complete mobile and tablet responsiveness
  • Full ownership of your website, including the domain name (excluding rented websites)
  • Stock images
  • Free SSL certificate
  • Free revisions
  • Complete domain setup
  • Free marketing consultation and advice for your website once it’s live
  • Warranty on your website for 12 months

There's a lot more to it. But if you can't see it in the calculator, it's likely to be included at no extra cost.

Pay monthly or pay upfront

Like most agencies, we also offer the option to pay for your website in monthly instalments. This is a great option if you’re not ready to commit to paying for your website upfront.

Our monthly payment plans are structured like subscriptions. You pay for the website monthly; it stays live. You cancel, the website goes offline. It's that simple.

Despite this, we still offer the ability to purchase the ownership of your website outright later down the line if you would like to move it away from us, but the pay-monthly option is designed more for businesses with limited budgets that don't want to miss out on the benefits of having a proper agency build their website.

Broomfield Plumbing website

Think of our monthly payment plans like this: you'd pay a little less for a Wix or Squarespace website, but you’d have to build this yourself, and it won't be anywhere near as good as a website built by an agency like ours.

Alternatively, you can pay for your website upfront and own the website outright immediately. This is always better if you have the budget for it.

Why businesses choose CreateTheWeb

Businesses choose us because we take pride in what we do. We’re a small agency, but we love what we do. Seeing our clients succeed is what drives us to keep going and keep delivering a great service. Not only that, but we’re also proud to be on the more affordable end of the spectrum yet still deliver industry-leading quality.
